• No news on licensing application timing yet. But the Office of Cannabis Management is making progress on hires and the Minnesota Department of Health and Ag are also working on rulemaking in their purview.
• Some cities are starting to enact moratoriums and think about zoning. This will be a complex issue that licensed businesses will have to work through. Star Tribune article from July 9 (gift link)
• The Red Lake Nation has announced that they are opening Minnesota's first full dispensary on August 1 (the bill explicitly gives tribes the ability to establish their own regulations). Since no one else is legally allowed to sell for a long time, I suspect that will be a profitable choice!
• Reminder to retailers of CBD and hemp-derived THC: You *must* add 10% tax on cannabis products and remit to the state. More info here.

Rule changes effective soon:

Home grow is legal August 1, and so are the new personal possession limits.

It's hard to believe that it's been just 6 weeks since Gov. Walz signed the omnibus cannabis bill! In that time I've talked to so many entrepreneurs excited to jump into the promise of Minnesota's hemp and cannabis market in a myriad of different spaces: retail locations, small farms, micro-businesses, capitalizing on destination and event space, manufacturing, testing labs, a seed bank, and adjacent services for cannabis companies like SEO, branding, marketing, and services for home growers.

It is already a thriving craft cannabis market, and I'm proud to be helping businesses grow and thrive.

Congratulations to Bob and Erin of CannaJoy MN, who are working hard to open their retail location soon! It is at 4753 Chicago Ave South in Minneapolis. I got to see it in progress yesterday and it is going to be BEAUTIFUL!

They will be selling hemp-derived edibles and beverages made in Minnesota, as well as art and, soon, SEEDS! Their space will also allow them to hold events and speakers.

Bob and Erin are great people and their true enthusiasm for community is infectious. Congratulations!
