| Regulatory Panel a Success! | | | On Monday September 25th, Jen Randolph Reise joined Chris Elvrum, assistant Director of the Department of Health - Office of Medical Cannabis, Tanner Berris, Minnesota Cannabis College, and Stephen Eigenmann, Creator of Canna Connect MN event series, for an industry panel. Having a regulator come and speak to the industry - and answer questions! - was an exciting development. You can watch the full recording on YouTube here. Listen for some guidance from Chris on non-compliant products, what inspectors care about when they visit, the grey status of THCa, and more. And for a taste, here's Jen talking about the value of having a written agreement, at least a "napkin basis"! | | | THE DEADLINE FOR HEMP-DERIVED REGISTRATION IS OCTOBER 1! | Oct. 1 is the deadline for all sellers of Hemp-derived THC products to register with Minnesota's Office of Cannabis Management. Businesses who do not register by October 1st will no longer be able to legally sell these products! OCM is taking a broad view that all retailers and manufacturers that sell to the public (such as breweries that make hemp-THC beverages) must register, and out-of-state manufacturers that sell online or to businesses in Minnesota must also register. The registration is free and fairly painless. At the same time, it begins the compliance process for hemp-derived THC businesses in Minnesota. In other words, it is time for this industry to pay attention. Go to https://www.health.state.mn.us/people/cannabis/edibles/index.html to register. | Named OCM Director Erin DuPree Resigns | Last week, Erin DuPree was named as the Director of the Office of Cannabis Management ("OCM"). However, on Friday night, she withdrew, following embarrassing news that her store had sold non-compliant products (e.g. vapes with HHC) as well as evidence of back taxes owed and liens concerning her former business practices. In the meantime, Charlene Briner will once again act as the interim Director of OCM. You can find more information about this story here: Minnesota cannabis boss quits after questions raised about her background | MPR News The good news is that Gov. Walz and regulators have stated that the work on rulemaking and appointments of other senior positions will continue while the search for a new director moves forward. So hopefully this will not create a significant delay in the process towards licensing. | | | Saturday is the Legacy Cup! | Not only are we the only law firm tabling at the Legacy Cup, attorney Matt Overcast is acting as a judge for the homegrow competition, and Jen Reise is on a panel about the cannabis industry! Come out and join this huge celebration of legalization in Minnesota. And come say high at North Star's table and grab some of our new merch! Tickets are only $4.20 for a full day of music, food trucks, competitions and more. Buy tickets here. HOT TIP: Parking is going to be really difficult - rideshare or public transit if possible. And bring your own smokeables (consumption of flower is legal at Surly Field, but sales are not). | | | 413 Wacouta Street, Suite 550 Saint Paul, MN 55101 | | | | | Nothing in the above newsletter should be considered as legal advice.
